Adam Bezzina

Owner
Adam's passion for wood working started when he was young, growing up helping his grandfather, Charlie, in his wood shop. Since then, Adam has had a successful 9 year career as an engineer while being a hobby woodworker. But working with his hands to build original custom furniture remained his true passion. Today, Adam combines technical design skills with a love of craftsmanship to create high-end custom furniture for residential and commercial spaces.

The Founder & Craftsman

After buying his first house, Adam could not find the right original furniture that met his needs. That is where his passion for fine wood working and building innovative custom furniture began. Adam started building furniture for his own house. He quickly fell in love with the fine woodworking and precision required to build functional works of art. That is when Pompous Fox was created with a mission to build sustainable custom furniture that would stand the test of time while capturing personal stories and functional needs.

Pompous Fox started in a one-car garage and has grown into a furniture workshop in Barrie where Adam develops his skills as a woodworker and continually pushes the craft forward. Now in a 2,000 square foot shop, Adam has expanded the business with better equipment to accommodate larger scale projects focusing on modern and contemporary pieces that elevate any space. He loves being challenged with unique furniture pieces and developing his own designs. That evolution is now ACHT STUDIO: a multidisciplinary furniture studio focused on intelligent, sculptural craftsmanship, merging artistry with engineering precision across wood, metal, and upholstery.

In his free time, Adam enjoys back country camping, hiking and exploring the mountains which has inspired a great appreciation for nature. This respect for the natural world is why sustainability is an important aspect of the business model. By creating high quality, solid wood furniture that will be passed down through generations, he contributes to a less wasteful and more sustainable future.

Today, Adam and his team focuses on creating highly customized pieces that highlight the natural beauty of wood while embodying true craftsmanship. He sources premium hardwoods through the Ontario Lumber Industry, ensuring a commitment to sustainability and local materials. Whether it’s the Extendable Dining Table or the Walnut Woven King Bed Frame, every piece is a testament to bespoke woodworking and building original custom furniture that becomes a part of a client’s story.

James Harrison

Craftsperson
After spending twenty years working in fine dining kitchens, James moved to Barrie in search of a new creative outlet. James knew he wanted to keep working with his hands and making bespoke things that bring joy to people's lives. That desire led him to woodworking. He embarked on a journey to acquire a new skill set, one that would allow him to stay connected to the creativity and craftsmanship he loved.

James quickly found parallels between the kitchen and the workshop. Both involve sourcing quality materials, working with suppliers, and creating something tailored specifically for each client. These similarities really drew him in.

James’ woodworking journey began with building furniture for his own home. It was an exciting and rewarding experience that he could share with his family. Now, after six years of honing his craft, James continues to enjoy the process and the beauty, irregularities and all of working with natural materials.

Emily Di Maria

Craftsperson
Emily builds custom solid wood furniture and built-ins, bringing a strong foundation in hands-on craftsmanship and cabinetmaking. After working in other industries, she returned to school to pursue woodworking and graduated with honours from Georgian College’s Cabinetmaking Techniques program in 2020.

Since entering the industry in 2021, she has focused on creating furniture that is both lasting and deeply individual. In 2023, she was invited to speak at a Women in Manufacturing networking session hosted by the City of Barrie, where she encouraged women interested in careers in the trades.

"Creating solid wood furniture has been a dream come true. Every piece of wood is unique, just like its owner. I love being part of something that lasts for years in someone's home and may even be passed down through generations.”

ACHT STUDIO Values

Intelligent Craft

We build with intention—where engineering precision supports sculptural form. Every piece is prototyped, refined, and resolved at the details, so it doesn’t just look striking; it functions beautifully, too.
Custom Process >

Creative Partnership

We work closely with designers, architects, and art directors to bring their ideas to life. Whether a project begins with a fully developed design or an early concept, we provide the technical expertise needed to translate it into a well-resolved piece—refining proportion, materials, and construction where required. Our role is to support the design intent through clear communication and precise craftsmanship.
Custom Process >

Material Integration

Wood remains core, but the studio is intentionally multidisciplinary. Metal, upholstery, glass and stone broaden the creative and technical possibilities of each piece, while the work remains open to other materials and processes that best support the concept, function, and context.

Built to Last

Sustainability shows up in longevity: fewer, better pieces made to live hard and age well. We prioritize quality materials, thoughtful construction, and finishes that hold up—so the work stays relevant for decades, not seasons.
